"Marvelously empathetic and draws the reader in." - Publisher's Weekly

Fans of Francine Rivers's The Scarlet Thread and Karen Kingsbury's Found will enjoy STRANGE CHILD, where sometimes family, second chances, and Death come from where you least expect them.

Marvin Johnson was an influential author before his daughter was murdered nearly three decades ago, and now with the death of his wife, he is contemplating suicide.

Until Samantha Wilkins, a homeless 16-year-old, invades Murphy's sheltered existence in an impoverished neighborhood in Boston and forces him to face parts of his past he would rather forget.

Known as the neighborhood recluse, Marvin is a man whose mystery and eccentricity border on the mythical, especially when he begins talking to a small child no one else can see. When Samantha-a quiet girl looking for her mother and a way back to her life--breaks into his apartment and leaves something behind important to her, an unlikely friendship emerges. That friendship is challenged, however, when he finds out that she has been lying to him and stealing from him.

When a psychopathic police officer becomes infatuated with Samantha and begins stalking her, Marvin must face his past and decide if he will withdraw back into his safe and private world or try to protect her the way he was unable to protect his own daughter.

  • Was immediately engrossed, haunted and heartbroken. This harrowing tale is both distant and incredibly present bringing the reader into a journey of empathy that will stick with them.

  • Strange Child is a heart-wrenching fast paced read that captures the reader's attention until the very end. This story follows the paths of two lonely souls who find strength and solace in an unlikely friendship forged through providence. As an avid reader and former reading teaching, I would highly recommend this book for students and book clubs alike. Be sure to have your tissues prepared!!!!

  • Although I believe G. J. Daily is a strong fantasy writer, this fiction novel had a slow, painful start, and I nearly put it down and moved on. But I’m so glad I didn’t. This book—full of dark. every day horrors has a divine silver lining that will keep you guessing until the very end. A notable read and a notable author.

  • An extremely well written, engaging, thought-provoking and entertaining book. The author moves effortlessly creating characters through which his story's dramatic and disturbing events take place. The story is both entertaining and gut-wrenching. I got the chills so many times throughout this book but could not put it down. It makes you see homelessness, old age, and abuse of power in a new light . It also reinforces the belief in the power of love and the human spirit. Strange Child will prove hard to forget.
